Mad & Kaffe Lyngby
Mad & Kaffe located in the Lyngby Mall is a celebration of color, comfort, and quiet craftsmanship — a neighbourhood café that feels at once grounded and joyfully elevated. The design draws inspiration from mid-century Danish functionalism, softened by tactile materials and splashes of playful modernism.
At the heart of the space is a striking wall of coloured glass arranged amidst a grid of clear glass, diffusing the daylight and lending the café its instantly recognisable glow. This vibrant patchwork is echoed in the opposite wall: a custom acoustic mural panel of muted geometric fields in ochre, clay, and slate — a warm contrast to the crispness of the glass.
Furnishings are simple but considered. Solid oak chairs with soft curves, oatmeal-upholstered benches, and polished steel café tables create a clean and inviting rhythm. Cone shaped lighting feature throughout the space large paper suspension lamps and deep ultramarine cone pendants hover above each table, giving definition and a pop of unexpected color against the warm, sandy tones of the floor and ceiling.
The mirrored wall panels in the central room visually expand the space and give customers a full view of the outdoor area in front. Custom shelving, round green tables, and soft planting add a lived-in feeling and a homey vibe. Every material, from the wood slat ceiling to the stone-textured tabletops, was chosen for its durability, tactility, and visual warmth.
Designed as a calm retreat from the bustle of the mall we looked to create a welcoming and tactile environment that encourages lingering — whether for a casual coffee, a quiet work session, or a long lunch with friends.
