Louche
Louche is conceived as a sensory escape—an atmospheric collision of old-world decadence and contemporary edge, tucked into the raw urban fabric of Copenhagen’s Meatpacking District. Drawing on the mystique of New Orleans’ historic absinthe bars, the interior evokes a layered narrative of indulgence, ritual, and intrigue, where time feels slightly distorted and every surface invites closer inspection.
The design balances quirky vintage character with refined classicism, anchored by a tactile richness that feels both nostalgic and immediate. Warm, saturated hues—ochre, absinthe green, and burnished copper—wrap the space in a sultry glow, referencing the patina of aged spirits, gaslight evenings, and Southern heat. These tones are offset by cool, luminous accents and contemporary materials, creating a tension between past and present.
Materiality plays a central role: brushed metals, textured plaster ceilings, patterned tiles, and softly worn woods create a layered, almost cinematic depth. The bar itself acts as a theatrical centerpiece—its reflective surfaces and glowing underlighting echo the ritual of absinthe preparation, transforming service into performance.
Patterns and forms are deliberately expressive. Geometric flooring grounds the space with a graphic rhythm, while curved shelving, ornate mirrors, and sculptural lighting introduce a sense of whimsy and unpredictability. Vintage references—seen in detailing, silhouettes, and decorative elements—are reinterpreted through a modern lens, avoiding pastiche in favor of a curated, slightly surreal composition.
Above all, Louche is designed to feel intimate yet vibrant, familiar yet otherworldly—a place where Copenhagen’s clean minimalism gives way to something more decadent, playful, and atmospheric. It invites guests not just to visit, but to linger, explore, and become part of its unfolding story.
